The ECO I NW project drew on regional research and development capabilities to support low carbon business innovation across. The project was not led by specific carbon reduction technologies and was instead driven by the needs of the resourceful and innovative businesses we worked with. As such, ECO I NW aimed to facilitate a collaborative approach to problem-solving, involving practical and academic input and guidance. This film is centred around the peatland restoration work of the project’s doctoral researcher, Jack Brennand and our business partner Barker & Bland.

In May 2022 Clare Dyson spent a month travelling solo through the Lake District with her horse Merry, searching for stories of nature regeneration. Visiting farmers and ecologists along the way, Clare and Merry travelled nearly 200miles through Cumbria’s diverse and dramatic landscape to meet people who are adapting the way they work the land to prioritise nature, produce food and combat climate change. Directed by award winning filmmaker Dom Bush, Thriving is a story of hope and adventure in unprecedented times.

The John Muir Trust took on management of Glenridding Common in the Lake District in 2017 via a lease agreement with the Lake District National Park Authority. We work with our neighbours to protect and enhance the ecosystem while respecting the area’s cultural traditions - including farming practices - recognising this is a key aspect of the Lake District World Heritage Site status.
